I paid my tax, but it’s not showing on my HMRC personal tax account, should I be worried?
Assuming you’ve double checked that the bank transfer details you used were correct, and that you’ve paid with the correct reference, it should be fine.
When you pay your money goes into a central account, and it usually takes 2 working days to be credited to your personal tax record/account which is the main reason for this kind of delay.
But don’t worry, once reconciled, the payment is treated as paid on the date it was received – so if you pay on the 20th, but it doesn’t show on your personal tax account until the 22nd, HMRC will still mark it as paid on 20th.
If you do find that you’ve made an error with your payment reference HMRC may not automatically be able to allocate the funds to you, but they can manually find it with enough supporting detail, so all is not lost but you’d need to speak with them. And it can be a bit tricky to unpick so do double check your references carefully.
